by Andy KellmanPaper Doll was one of several short-lived groups/artists overseen by Patrick Adams and Peter Brown, the two legendary disco maestros who formed Harlem's P&P label and a number of satellite imprints in the mid-'70s. Produced by Brown, the "Get Down Boy" single was released in 1979 on Heavenly Star. Highlighted by exuberant female vocals, a wickedly taut synth line, some weird treatments on the drums, and beautifully elegant touches of strings, the song boasts one of the speedier tempos produced by the P&P camp. It also doubles as one of its buried treasures and should have been a hit on adventurous radio stations across the globe. Though its original vinyl incarnation is all but impossible to track down, the Counterpoint label included it on 1997's Disco Juice compilation, which anthologized Adams and Brown's independent work.
