by Drago BonacichDominican top-selling artist Antony Santos, known as el Mayimbe, became involved in tropical music after improving his vocal skills and learning how to play guitar. Santos formed his first band to play locally and made his debut in 1992 with an album called La Chupadera, released by Plátano Records. The album was followed by 1993's La Batalla. Antony Santos' breakthrough came in 1994 after issuing three albums, Corazón Bonito, Mayimbe, and Cójelo Ahi.
