by Mark DemingWhile contemporary country band Whiskey Falls had only been together a little over a year when they released their debut album in the fall of 2007, the four members had all had years of experience in the music business before they began working together -- guitarist and vocalist Damon Johnson was a founding member of the rock group Brother Cane, multi-instrumentalist Buck Johnson has been a sideman with everyone from Matthew Sweet and the Doobie Brothers to O-Town and Miley Cyrus, and Seven Williams and Wally Brandt have worked as producers and songwriters as part of the successful production company We 3 Kings. However, while Williams and Brandt had enjoyed great success writing music for film and television projects and had occasionally hit the pop charts with their compositions, they were eager to do something more personal, and in 2006 they headed to Nashville to write a batch of songs for themselves. The material Williams and Brandt were writing and recording in Nashville began to attract some powerful industry buzz, and they decided to turn their Whiskey Falls project into a for-real band, bringing aboard Damon and Buck and playing occasional live shows while getting their sound right in the studio. Eventually, Midas Records signed a deal with the band, and the song "Last Train Running" was already enjoying radio and video airplay before Whiskey Falls' self-titled debut album was released in September 2007.
