Kang Jung-suk was born in Hamyang, Gyeongsang Province in 1952 and had lived in Namwon.
She learned pansori from Kim So-hui, Kang Do-geun, Kim Yeong-un, Oh Jeong-suk, and Han Nong-seon, gayageum sanjo from Seo Gong-cheol, and gayageum byeongchang from Park Gwi-hui. Kang is currently the supervisor of Folk Music Ensemble of The National
Center for Korean Traditional Performing Arts (NCKPTA). She devotes herself to the promotion and transmission of gayageum byeongchang of Park Gwi-hui school and gayageum sanjo of Seo Gong-cheol school.
She was designated as the holder of Intangible Cultural Asset No. 23 in 2001.
