by Stacia ProefrockVocalist Gina Blaber, Kevin Russell (who plays guitar, mandolin and five-string banjo), mandolin and guitar player Layne Bowen, bassist Tom Sours, and dobro player Craig Anderson (who also gives a hand on banjo) make up the Sonoma County-based contemporary bluegrass band Modern Hicks. Drawing inspiration from musicians as diverse as Bill Monroe and the Beatles, the Modern Hicks' crisp sound is featured on their debut recording from Jackalope Records, Out Among the Stars, which was issued in 1999.
