by Jonathan LewisAustralian band Knievel received some attention in the mid-1990s with their guitar pop tunes. A three-piece, the band consisted of Wayne Connolly (vocals and guitar), Tracy Ellis (bass and vocals) and Nick Kennedy (drums).
Perth-based Knievel released their debut album in 1995. Entitled We Fear Change, the album became a minor commercial success in Australia, and generated two singles, "Let It Go" and the brilliant punk-pop of "Might as Well Be Gone". Both of these were picked up by Australian alternative radio.
Knievel returned in 1997 with a second album, Steep Hill Climb. The album did not perform well, and was largely ignored. The failure to produce a successful single from the album was a large part of the problem. Musically, the band remained somewhere between Matthew Sweet and The Posies, but added instruments like the cello which softened their sound somewhat.
