by Heather PharesCrafting a sound that borrowed from classic Northwestern punk like the Wipers as well as hints of vintage garage rock, surf, and rockabilly, Olympia, WA's Old Haunts formed in 2001 with the lineup of singer/guitarist Craig Extine, bassist Scott Seckington, and drummer Danny Sasaki. Both Seckington and Sasaki were former members of the Sedan, while Extine previously played with bands including the Serum Greys, Fallout Dregs, and Veneral Uppers. The Old Haunts debuted with the straightforwardly named First and Second EPs, which were later compiled into the equally straightforward Collection. Their first album, 2005's Fallow Field, included not only Sasaki on drums, but Natalie Cox (also of the Program) and Chris Sutton (Dub Narcotic Sound System) behind the drumkit as well. By the time the band's 2006 album, Fuel on Fire, was recorded, another ex-Serum Greys member, Curtis James, was recruited as the Old Haunts' percussionist. Former Bikini Kill bandmate Tobi Vail then climbed aboard to assume drum duties on Poisonous Times, the band's third full-length release.
