by Marisa BrownAlthough he had spent the greater part of his life playing with various groups and in various styles, it wasn't until he was nearly 30 years old that French musician Emmanuel Da Silva released his first solo album under his own name. As a teenager he was in the punk band Mad Coackroches and the industrial-leaning Punishment Park, and later he started the folk trio Venus Coma and also released material under the name Mitsu. With a desire to continue exploring new sounds, Da Silva decided to compose indie pop songs in French (much of his previous writing had been in English or Spanish), many of which showed up on his debut, Décembre en Été, which was released in 2006 and brought him comparisons to acts like Miossec and Cali.
