For her dissertation on JS Bach’s Articulation Practice she received her PhD from the Technische Universität Berlin. In 2002 she founded the piano ensembles Aurora Duo and Quartet serving since then as their artistic director. Concerts have taken her to the Bayreuth Easter Festival, the Musikfestspiele Potsdam-Sanssouci, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the East-West Festival at the Zielona Góra Philharmonic, the St Petersburg International week of conservatories, and the Konserthus Oslo among other engagements. With the Aurora Quartet she has performed numerous premières and world premières, among them Rodion Shchedrin’s Hommage à Chopin. Their recordings for two pianos, eight hands, of Russian Romantic piano transcriptions (Naxos 8.557717) and of Norwegian contemporary composers have been highly acclaimed. With her colleague Alina Luschtschizkaja, Julia Severus made the first recording of the complete Tchaikovsky ballet suites (Naxos 8.570418). Her recording of Bizet’s complete solo piano works (Naxos 8.570831–32) was presented on Le Carrefour de Lodéon and Les Stars du Classique, France, and awarded CD of the Week by RBB, Germany. The Guardian wrote: “She just lets the music speak for itself…” She lives and works in Paris and Berlin.
