by Greg PratoNew York-based hardcore/metal outfit Among Thieves is comprised of singer Rob Brock, guitarist Scott Roberts (ex-Spudmonsters), bassist Alan Robert (ex-Life of Agony), and drummer Will Shepler (ex-Agnostic Front and Madball). Within six months of forming, the quartet had written and recorded enough original compositions to issue a self-financed CD, and played regularly on the East Coast. While there are still some of their hardcore roots detected in Among Thieves' sound, the band is influenced equally by such heavy metal legends as Black Sabbath and Soundgarden. By late 2001, Among Thieves was still looking to secure a record deal, but with demo tracks already appearing on both the Album Network and CMJ charts (as well as write-ups in such publications as Metal Edge, Metal Maniacs, and Metal Hammer).
