by Corey AparBased out of Meadville, PA, post-hardcore quartet Signal Home were formed out of the dissolution of two northwest Pennsylvania bands by longtime friends who wanted to make a lasting mark on the independent scene they'd been a part of for years. Fredric Oakman (vocals/guitar), Troy Messerall (guitar/vocals), Paul Dean (bass), and Brandon Vargo (drums) got right to work, first showcasing their collective love of acts like Hot Water Music, Braid, and Jawbreaker on the three-song self-released Mayday EP in 2004 (remastered in 2006 with three bonus tracks). Signal Home toured extensively behind the record and ultimately scored a deal with Carbon Copy Media, the Victory Records imprint run by Hawthorne Heights vocalist J.T. Woodruff, in spring 2006. The band's full-length debut, A Fragile Constitutional, followed that August and was received well by punk bloggers and zines alike. Signal Home stayed on the road before and after the album's release, hitting up gigs with acts like Last Tuesday and Speakerfire.
