by Joslyn LayneBased out of New York, the jazz trio Sephardic Tinge consists of downtown pianist Anthony Coleman, bassist Ben Street, and drummer Michael Sarin. Presumably a continuation of Colemans project ed in the 1995 album with Greg Cohen and Joey Baron entitled Sephardic Tinge, this piano trio draws equally from the jazz tradition and the Sephardic tradition — the Jewish musical tradition that originated around the Mediterranean basin, where Jews expelled from Middle Ages Spain settled. Theres a little Latin rhythm thrown in Sephardic Tinges music as well.
