by Mike DaRoncoNot letting a lack of a music scene get in the way of playing gigs throughout their surrounding providence -even if it meant the weekly ritual of driving hours on end- The Raymond Brake first got together in the unlikely town of Greensboro, NC with only a their instruments, a practice space and a few friends of support. With their debut in 1994, the band released a handful of singles that reminisced the sounds of heartfelt indie rock and lyrical complexities before hooking up with Simple Machines in 1995. The Raymond Brakes first album Piles of Dirty Laundry came out later that year followed by a 1996 tour of the United States with Liquorice, Karate and the Archers of Loaf. A signing to Hep-Cat came about that summer not too long before the release of their next two EPs Never Work Ever and New Wave Dream/ Secret (the later being on Simple Machines).
