Camera Obscura are ready to be heartbroken again. On June 4, the Glasgow dreamers release their fifth full-length, Desire Lines, via 4AD.
According to a press release, the follow-up to 2009′s My Maudlin Career feature guest vocals from Neko Case and My Morning Jacket’s Jim James. Camera Obscura recorded the upcoming effort in Portland last December with producer Tucker Martine (previous credits include Spoon, R.E.M., the Decemberists, and more).
Frontwoman Tracyanne Campbell said in a state- ment that the long gap between albums made the sessions for Desire Lines more difficult. “Of all our records this was pretty much the most challenging to write, partly because of the situation we found ourselves in with having to take such a long and uncertain amount of time out, but also because it would be record number five and we were getting harder and harder to please,” she said. Campbell added, “Working in the U.S. with southern gentleman Tucker Martine was a positive experience. He brought a certain calmness to recording that wasn’t there before.” Given the Scots’ steady track record, we’re sure the forthcoming album will shine like a new pin.
