“瘦马”这个概念的不确定性吸引着我。“古道西风瘦马”“扬州瘦马”等都是人们耳熟能详的短语，此外它让我想起《罪与罚》的主人公拉斯科尼科夫梦里那匹不堪驱驰的驽马。在作品里，我用低音提琴模拟马的嘶鸣，并将其置于一种失真的碾压性声响里，而这种工业性的机械声响又在尾声中发展成挽歌般的行进。——彭智烨

The uncertainty of such concept as “a skinny horse” fascinated me. Besides many phrases from Chinese classical literature familiar to us, depicting imageries of “a skinny horse”, came to my mind the lean horse thrashed and tortured in a dream of Raskolnikov, from Dostoevsky’s Crime and Punishment. I in this piece used the contrabass to simulate neighs of a horse, putting it amongst a distorted crunching sound, which with its industrial rigidness, developed into threnody-like advancing in the coda. —— PENG Zhiye
