High Highs are Jack Milas (lead vocals) and Oli Chang who release new album ‘Cascades’ on February 5th 2016.
Citing influences such as Talk Talk & Fleetwood Mac, the duo create a range delicate synth soundscapes overlaid with multi-layered vocal harmonies wrapped up an indie pop sensibility.
Lead track ‘Cascades’ is one of the more upbeat and percussive tracks on the album resplendent with glistening guitars and shimmering synths, the band say of the track;
‘Cascades is named after the mountain range in the American Northwest. It’s about a feeling of elation, and the feeling you get when you take in the stature of a mountain range like the Cascades. It's also slightly nostalgic for the time we were on tour driving up from Salt Lake City into Oregon and into the Cascades themselves. Fog was covering the tops, it was very lush and green but cold. It was also a big moment for us in the writing process where we felt this tune was bigger than us almost.'
Songs on the new album range from the more melancholic and gentler ‘Sun’ and ‘London, After The Rain’ featuring warm intricate acoustic guitars to more upbeat pop-infused tracks like ‘How Could You Know’ and ‘Ocean To City’.
It’s been two years since their previous debut album ‘Open Season’ was released to much critical acclaim with tracks appearing in Grey’s Anatomy and also featuring in the soundtrack to Pitch Perfect. During this time High Highs have toured extensively appearing with Vampire Weekend and Empire Of The Sun before locking themselves away in their studio for most of 2015 to record ‘Cascades’.
High Highs will be touring Australia and North America early 2016 with UK dates to be announced soon.
