Fallout 4 developer Bethesda has published a piece looking at the making of the game's music and shining a spotlight on Inon Zur, who is scoring the upcoming open-world RPG.
Over the course of the fascinating piece, Zur discusses his process, which includes doing things like walking around in his garden hammering on things, using his cello bow on a garden char, and subjecting his piano to some rough treatment.
&I cruelly exploit the piano by hitting the strings with open hands and even biting the strings,& he says.
He goes on to discuss his influences and goals for the Fallout 4 score, before explaining why the main theme uses a piano., which--despite initially seemingly like a bad idea to Fallout 4 designer Todd Howard--has become a key aspect of the game's music overall.
Included in the piece is a video of Zur playing the theme on his grand piano--it's rather beautiful. You can also listen to the full and final orchestral version of the theme here.
Zur's previous works include Dragon Age: Inquisition, Fallout: New Vegas, and Fallout 3.
The Fallout 4 release date is set for November 10 across PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
Bethesda has announced post-launch content release plans for it, which including regular free updates, paid DLC, mods, and more.
Fallout 3's Three Dog voice actor recently confirmed he won't be back for Fallout 4, despite previous indications. The actor, Erik Todd Dellums, claims he was never even asked to audition.
