Glistening Americana and quietly epic singer/songwriter magic. Max Jury’s vocals, instrumentals, and looks are all artfully disheveled retroism, yet somehow the Iowa-born, London-based artist retains a defiantly contemporary appeal. With an invitingly slight tone inflected with real rawness, he conjures love stories (the starry-eyed “Little Jean Jacket”, which hits the album’s melodic jackpot), and tales of loneliness (“Standing On My Own”, the 70s infused roll of “Beg & Crawl”).
