The impact that ANIMALS AS LEADERS have had on the modern heavy music scene cannot be overstated. When Tosin Abasi released his debut solo album under that moniker in 2009, few could have foreseen the band’s meteoric rise. Although Abasi had earned acclaim as the lead guitarist in Washington DC based metalcore act Reflux, it was unthinkable that an instrumental album of progressive metal with jazz, electronic and ambient flourishes would develop anything more that a cult following.
The groundbreaking album quickly caught fire, though. Steve Vai hailed the band as “the future of creative, heavy virtuoso guitar playing”; Guitar World featured Abasi on it’s cover; and soon enough, ANIMALS AS LEADERS’ self-titled debut – produced, missed and engineered by Misha Mansoor (Periphery) – became not only genre-defying, but also genre-defining, spawning a thriving instru-metal sub-genre that continues to push musical boundaries today.
Six years after it changed the scene forever. Prosthetic is proud to present the encore edition of ANIMALS AS LEADERS’ anything goes debut featuring expanded artwork with 3-D imagery, custom 3-D glasses and three bonus tracks’ the previously unreleased, never-before-heard “Kalimba”, a 2001 demo called “Orea” and the popular “Wave Of Babies”, a live setlist standard that has never been available on CD until now.
