James Levine, et al perform these magnificent chamber works of Schubert to perfection with great skill, passion, and gracefulness in their interpretations. This is a great performance by extremely talented musicians.
Schubert's 'Trout' quintet is one of his later works and perfectly conveys the scene of a pastoral setting with the trouts hopping out of the water early in the morning. The strings carry the listener through a fishing expedition in trying to catch fish with all of the frustrations in reeling the fish in. Levine's delicate performance on the piano and the sharp strings are excellent in their interpretations and work well in conveying the motif. The Quartet is an earlier work and is simply graceful in its gaiety with the flute and the delicate guitar. The solo guitar pieces are particularly touching.
This is a great set of works by Schubert that are rather lively and light. The performance was outstanding as is the recording quality. This is a great addition to one's collection.
