With its third album, From Companionship to Competition, New York hardcore outfit Kill Your Idols keeps it streetwise and remains true to the genre. Fast and furious, the disc's 15 tracks clock in at just under a half-an-hour and are sure to please purists. When KYI tips its hat to Henry Rollins and Greg Ginn with the musical Molotov "Only Dicks Don't Like Black Flag" or engages in full-tilt mayhem like "15 Minutes," the delivery comes complete with Andy West's barking vocals, not to mention shrapnel-shedding riffs and skull rattling drumwork. If the songs tend to run together after a while, the rage -- best exemplified on "Still Pist," originally done by Pist, and "Stuck in a Rut" -- sustains your attention long after the originality wanes.
