The self-titled debut album from Indianapolis-based trio After 7 had success written all over it. Two-thirds of the trio are the brothers of producer Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, and the other third is the cousin of Antonio "L.A." Reid; the two produced the majority of the album, which features three smash hits and a host of other likable tracks. The first smash single was "Heat of the Moment," a popular dance track that peaked at number five on the Billboard R&B charts. The second of the three hits was the number one single "Ready or Not," aided by Melvin Edmonds vigorous vocals. However, the song is anchored by Kevon Edmonds soaring natural tenor and the soothing melody that just sails along with the song's steady rhythm arrangement. The third smash single was "Can't Stop," also claiming the number one spot on the R&B charts; it's a laid-back track with a catchy hook line, complemented by its new jack swing beat. The song's popularity increased with several remixes. One other single worth mentioning is "One Night," an urban adult contemporary composition that was never released; it showcases Melvin and Kevon in an impressive vocal exchange over a mid-tempo rhythm.
