Paradise is the third extended play (EP) by American singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey, released on November 9, 2012, by Universal Music. The record was additionally packaged with the reissue of her second studio album Born to Die (2012), titled Born To Die: The Paradise Edition. Its music incorporates alternative rock, baroque pop, and indie pop styles. Del Rey enlisted collaborators including producers Rick Nowels, Justin Parker, and Rick Rubin.
Upon its release, Paradise received generally favorable reviews from music critics. The extended play debuted at number 10 on the US Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 67,000 copies. It also debuted at number 10 on the Canadian Albums Chart and peaked within the top-five of various other Billboard charts. Charting across Europe, the extended play became a top-ten hit in Flanders and Poland, charting within the top twenty in Wallonia and the Netherlands.
The EP's lead singles were "Blue Velvet" and "Ride" . "Blue Velvet" was a cover of the popular 1950s track. An ancillary music video for "Blue Velvet" was used in a commercial for clothing line H&M to help promote the EP. "Ride" is a downtempo pop ballad produced by Rick Rubin and co-written by "Video Games" author Justin Parker. The video for "Ride" premiered at a promotional event in Santa Monica on October 10, airing online two days later. The third single from the album was Burning Desire. For the 2012 Paris Motor Show, Del Rey served as a model for the Jaguar F-Type luxury automobile and performed "Burning Desire" as another avenue of promotion. "Burning Desire" also serves as the soundtrack for a short film starring Damian Lewis scheduled for a 2013 release. A teaser trailer was released to Del Rey's official YouTube channel with snippets of each song featured on the EP. Even before its release, the song "Cola" received media attention due to the controversial nature of its lyrics. Music videos for "Ride", "Blue Velvet", "Bel Air", and "Burning Desire" were posted to VEVO and YouTube to help promote the EP. (wiki)
