Masterminded by producer Keith Sweat, Ol' Skool's eponymous debut is a fitfully successful collection of urban R&B. Produced by Sweat, Organized Noize and Kevin "KJ" Johnson, the album has an appealing sound, but too often the tracks blend together. The best moments -- such as "Set You Free" and the cover of Atlantic Starr's "Am I Dreaming," which features Xscape and Sweat on vocals -- suggest that the group has potential, but those moments simply don't arrive often enough on their debut.
