Sneering, defiant, and not altogether intelligent, the Varukers make retread punk thrash with all the heavy-handed vitriol and sputtering spite expected from the Mohawk crowd. Although even less imaginative than the bands to whom they owe obvious stylistic debts, they manage to plow through a good portion of punk's most cherished dogmas and anarchistic slogans in less than 25 minutes. Clichéd and contradictory, on one hand decrying violence and on the other reveling in fantasies of brutally murdering their enemies, they nonetheless have a good grasp of their punk instrumental chops. Still, How Do You Sleep? probably isn't a necessary purchase for anyone but the most devoted of hardcore punk fans (although they would already have countless similar albums).
