According to the liner notes in this debut penned by Jim Durkin of Dreams of Damnation, he and his buddy Charlie Silva decided to form their band after hanging out, pounding beers, and listening to Sodom, Destruction, Possessed, Slayer, and his "personal favorite," Dark Angel. Alright, it's great to have influences, but Dark Angel was Jim Durkin's own band. He goes to use some kind of reverse psychology trick, saying "this is not meant to be Dark Angel 2." The thing is, the number of times he's brought up the fact that that was his old band, combined with the fact that most people who buy this album will buy it because it has "ex members of Dark Angel" stickers on the packaging make comparisons inevitable. That said, this album sure sounds a lot like Dark Angel. But hey, what's wrong with that, really? If you look past the attempt at raw production that often crosses the line into bad production, these are six tough, grinding, thrashing, old-school death metal songs. For fans of Dark Angel especially, and for fans of old death and thrash metal, this is an album that returns to that format with success and power.
