Damien Jurado just keeps plugging away, creating some of the best folky, singer-songwriter music out there right now, even as acts that mine a similar sound, like Fleet Foxes and Bon Iver, attract more blog buzz. Plenty of on Caught in the Trees came from Jurado's longtime tour backers, Jenna Conrad and Eric Fisher. Jurado took a year to craft the album, the longest he's ever worked on one LP. Some of the songs here ramp up to a rocking level Jurado hasn't been at since his 2002 album I Break Chairs, which he recorded with the backing band Gathered in Song. Production assistance came from Casey Foubert, who has played in Pedro the Lion, Seldom, and Crystal Skulls.
