Cugat's reign over the Waldorf-Astoria hotel in New York City lasted more than a decade. By the time the King of the Rumbas made (or titled, or Columbia titled) an album in tribute, however, Perez Prado's mambo mania had taken hold. Mambo was never manic under Cugat's baton until the later Mercury album, Mambo!. There are several worthwhile horn and percussion solos here, however. And it is always fun to hear imitations of Prado's signature &dilo& grunt.
