Winter 1988. The 16 year-old Nolan and his friend plan to steal the car of one of their parents. Nolan’s father, an alcoholic, is passing out in the living room. Thus, they decide to wait. Rain falls heavily. Driving into the woods, Nolan loses control of the wheel and the car crashes into a ditch, catching fire. Nolan sustains severe burns on his face and part of his body, while his friend gets away with mild burns on his hands.
After the incident, they stopped seeing each other and they never talked again. It had torn them apart. Nolan had been damaged for the rest of his life, and for 14 years, his friend felt guilty for getting away so easily. He started writing letters as a way of dealing with his guilt and the resulting insomnia. Five letters were written over time, and a sixth read, ‘Dear Nolan, I just read the paper…“As of February 20th, 2002 the search for Nolan Hayes has been stopped.”’
All this time Nolan had not been answering his friend’s letters. After all, his face and body were burnt, his social life was ruined, his father was a drunk, and Nolan descended into a deep depression. Then one day, he just disappeared. A Missing Person investigation was started by the police, but after four years without clues, they stopped the search. No word of him came to his family, his friends or his coworkers, and Nolan was never to be seen again.

"Have You Found Peace?" is the epitome of the band’s use of cinematic storytelling, and is somewhat of a musical Gesamtkunstwerk, featuring collaborations with bands that AUTISM has performed with in the past. Krzysztof Traczyk, who is the vocalist of Polish post-metal act ROSK, has provided vocals and narration throughout the album, most notably to the second track “No Word”, which carries a heavy Cult of Luna-vibe. Contributing to the same track we find the Lithuanian ambient/noise artist OORCHACH, while further collaborations involve cult ambient artist Laurynas Jukonis (GIRNŲ GIESMĖS, ORO!ORO!, ANUBI) and Valdas Voveraitis (ERDVE). The latter intensifies the track “Haunting Recollections” with his moody saxophone phrasings and a blistering solo towards the climax of the track.
Have You Found Peace? is a logical continuation from the previous AUTISM albums, but with its lengthy catalog of collaborations, it transcends anything the band has ever done before. Through a subtle blend of spoken word narratives and a dynamic soundtrack of soaring guitars and enigmatic ambient textures, AUTISM manage to present their story in a truly unique fashion, creating an ambitious statement of their artistry.
