“We’re losing the Moon” is a reference to the phenomenon of our moon drifting away from earth’s orbit at about the rate our fingernails grow. In tandem with that the allegory of man thinking of “the heavens” as an immovable and permanent thing. Once worshiped as gods, these heavenly bodies are now found to be as transient as life itself only over time scales long enough to fool countless generations of people. In this picture another reminder that we don’t see things as they are but as WE are.
