Two of music’s most original and unique oddballs Jarvis Cocker and Chilly Gonzales have teamed up for a duet record entitled ‘Room 29’ to be released in March.
Both have had a mutual interest in working together since they first met in 2002, now it’s the yesteryear of Hollywood’s legendary Chateau Marmont that have brought them together.
“If you must get in trouble, do it at the Chateau Marmont,” noted Harry Cohn, founder of Columbia Pictures, in 1939. It’s the hotel that has intrigued the world over since it opened its doors in 1929. It has seen scandals, legendary parties and overdoses over the 80+ years. Every celebrity who is important has stayed there, such as guests Jean Harlow and Los Angeles mobster Meyer Cohen, alias “Mickey the Haberdasher”. Gonzales’ score and Cocker’s lyrics conjure up the lives of some of Room 29’s previous occupants, as well as shining a light on the glittering fantasy and often bleak reality of Hollywood.
Room 29 was recorded in Paris over a three year period and included guest musicians, flautist Nathalie Hauptman, French horn player Hasko Kroeger & soprano singer Maud Techa.
