Worship Him, the debut release from Swiss death-metal combo Samael, is about as rough and raw as it gets, and shows no sign of the band's subsequent evolution into one of Europe's most innovative extreme metal bands. Instead, the album combines slightly above-average songwriting and musicianship with the incomprehensible, tortured screaming typical of the genre. Of the songs, &Sleep of Death& and &The Dark& show some promise, but it's the keyboard instrumental &Last Benediction& which actually points the way to the band's future exploits.
