Blues on a Holiday is divided between full-band numbers and songs guitarist Paul Rishell performed on a solo guitar. Both sides are exciting, offering invigorating updates of Delta and Chicago blues. Although the solo numbers -- which were all performed on a National Steel -- are raw and exciting, the songs recorded with a full band give a good idea of the depths of Rishell's talent. It is on these songs that he really tears loose, demonstrating what a versatile guitarist he is.
