Maybe it's because Wyatt relinquished his firm upper hand on the songwriting (everybody in the band pens material) and production (Robert Fripp takes over), but this is a distinct comedown from Matching Mole's debut. The fusion rock chops assert themselves much more strongly on this largely instrumental set, though not to any great effect or purpose. It's not just difficult listening, but a bit of a bore, which is probably not what they intended. Another great song title, though, in &Starting in the Middle of the Day We Can Drink Our Politics Away.&
