The Trio Matamoros was one of the greatest of the incomparable Cuban guitar-and-percussion sones groups (and a seminal influence on early African guitar). The title cut here is one of the most beautiful of Cuban melodies. Also here is a track with an oboe-like reed instrument descended from the Chinese shona and only heard during carnival in Oriente.
