Charlie Peacock's self titled second album is an unimaginatively produced collection of modestly crafted songs that has the unfinished feeling of a demo recording. It suffers not only from producer Nigel Gray's plasticky guitar and keyboard arrangements, but also from Peacock's enduring penchant for stuffing more words into a melodic line than it can reasonably be expected to handle. The best songs on this record, "Lie Down in the Grass" and "Down in the Lowlands," can be found in better versions elsewhere. The others tend to rely on paper-thin lyrical gimmicks, as on the opening "Message Boy" and the nostalgic "Dizzy Dean Movie."
