Bound for the Kingdom is Webb Pierce's gospel album from 1959. Nearly every country artist of note made at least one religious album, and Pierce is no exception. He had taken a stab at gospel material when he cut four sacred songs in 1954, but only one of the four was released at the time. Here he lets loose with a full dozen, including some uncommon selections that add to the album's appeal. Accompanied by the Anita Kerr Singers and an orchestra directed by Owen Bradley, Pierce's unmistakable voice takes center stage as always. He tackles three Albert E. Brumley hymns, and the leadoff track is a snappy rendition of &He's Got the Whole World in His Hands.& The liner notes promise that this album will bring the listener peace of mind, but this isn't the kind of material at which Pierce excelled, and in reality it's more of a curiosity than a spiritual masterpiece.
