When I'm Falling is a lovely follow-up to Terminal 4's self-titled debut. The band remains Fred Lonberg-Holm's most accessible project as a leader and, while still embracing pop structures and pleasing melodies, this album has more of a jazz bent than the last. Cellist Lonberg-Holm, trombonist Jeb Bishop, bassist Jason Roebke, and guitarist Ben Vida weave a dreamy, laid-back mood, making more straightforwardly pretty music than what the individual musicians are usually associated with. Sophisticated, cool, aware, and mellow, this music would be good for slow dancing in Central Park on a summer's night.
