2012年8月，重金属摇滚天团Metallica前进加拿大拍摄乐团的首部3D演唱会电影【Metallica: Through The Never】。由电影「终极战士团」的匈牙利导演Nimród Antal执导，搭配24部摄影机同时捕捉演唱会画面的3D摄影技术拍摄，以Metallica在温哥华Rogers Arena体育场与艾德蒙顿Rexall Place体育场的两场演唱会为主轴，穿插由「蜘蛛人：惊奇再起2」潜力新星Dane DeHaan所扮演的巡迴演唱会道具管理菜鸟捲入超现实冒险旅程的悬疑剧情，2013年9月，这部为摇滚乐写下历史新页的电影于加拿大多伦多影展首映，而同名电影原声带将带领乐迷亲“声”感受重金属摇滚的生猛狂潮！

Metallica is going "old school" for the soundtrack of their upcoming 3D movie, "Metallica Through the Never." The band announced on Monday that they'll released "Metallica Through The Never (Music from the Motion Picture)" on Sept. 24 via the band's own imprint, Blackened Recordings.

The two-disc album features 16 songs, including classic tracks like "For Whom the Bell Tolls" and "Master of Puppets," as well as newer songs like "Fuel," all recorded at Rexall Place in Edmonton and Rogers Arena in Vancouver, where the band filmed the live footage featured in the movie.

Both the CD and digital versions will be available on Sept. 24. Later in the fall, the soundtrack will be released on vinyl in both 33 1/3RPM and 45RPM versions.

"Let's hear it for the old school soundtrack!" said drummer Lars Ulrich. "Not only are we beyond psyched about our movie coming your way shortly, but the fact that we get to share the music directly in all these formats is way fuckin' cool."

"Metallica Through the Never" mixes concert footage with a narrative story, plus added CGI, and will open Sept. 27 on IMAX screens. It goes wide a week later.

"It's like three movies in one," frontman James Hetfield told Billboard in May. "So there's a lot of different dynamics happening within this movie, and every time we go and see it and tweak here and there. It's like putting a song together -- only it's a little more expensive. It's pretty scary but it's been something on our radar for awhile. It's become more unique than we ever though it would."
