Their vocals were once more vigorous and assertive, while Russell Tompkins, Jr . reached back and began singing with the soaring force and might that had characterized their best songs. They still didn't have top-flight, or even good material, and the production and arrangements were again dreary. But at least the group didn't sound ready to call it a career.
