Singer, songwriter, and guitarist Jill Barber's smoky, soulful voice with its distinctive jazz phrasing has made her a kind of alt-cabaret favorite on Canada's folk scene, and her top-notch songwriting is a thing to behold, very nearly in Joni Mitchell territory. Born and raised in Toronto, Barber has made her home in Halifax, Nova Scotia, for several years now, touring regularly, often with her brother, fellow Canadian pop-folkster Matthew Barber. She has released two impressive EPs, 2002's A Note to Follow So and 2004's Oh Heart, and a full-length album, 2007's masterful For All Time, which was produced by multi-instrumentalist Les Cooper.
