Considering the talent involved in this quartet set (trumpeter Kenny Wheeler, altoist Lee Konitz, guitarist Bill Frisell and bassist Dave Holland), the music on this CD is a bit of a disappointment. The nine Wheeler originals are moody, wandering and somewhat forgettable, the interplay between the trumpeter and Konitz fails to light any real sparks, and Frisell sounds surprisingly restrained and laidback. Although pleasant, this is not the superb collaboration that one would expect from innovative musicians of this caliber.
