The best Dyke & the Blazers collection has 24 tracks, including all the key singles: &Funky Broadway,& &Uhh,& &Runaway People,& &We Got More Soul,& &Let a Woman Be a Woman--Let a Man Be a Man,& &Funky Walk,& &Funky Bull& (like James Brown, Dyke was not a man averse to milking an idea with a series of similar song titles). What's more, the disc includes parts one and two of the multi-sided singles &Funky Broadway,& &Funky Walk,& &Funky Bull,& and &Uhh.& Not much development of style or ideas over the four years or so encompassed by this anthology, but that's not the main point of funk dance music. &Runaway People& does look forward to the more sophisticated urban funk of the early 1970s with its addition of strings--reminiscent, ironically, of the production eventually adapted by Dyke's old buddies the O'Jays. Note that So Sharp! was originally issued by Kent on LP in 1983, but the CD version has extra tracks.
