Cleveland based Smooth Approach lives up to their name on You Got It, their sophomore CD for Executive Hits Records. This 18-song collection makes good use of poly rhythms on uptempo tracks, as well as Q-Nice -- C-town's hottest rapper. A stalking beat paints the scenario for "Are You Down For Me," which features a cameo from Q-Nice. The first 10 cuts consist of upbeat, hip-hop tracks: "Push Em' Up," "Everybody On The Floor (Keep Dancing)," which samples "Good Times," by Chic, and "Keep It Real," accented by Sky Boy's scathing rock guitar, are rump shaking delights.
Smooth Approach's, For Lovers Only show, begins with the romantic "Don't Worry." "By The Sea," an eerie, pop ballad featuring airy vocal blends with an a cappella fade. A sensitive "Gentle" exemplifies the urban beat ballad that has worn out its welcome. "Never Enough," a floater driven by sweet harmonies and created by Kevin Flourney, is one of two songs not created by Jeff "Tight" Roberson. Roberson, along with Kerry Willis, JD Dismuke, and Lawrence "Big L" Harris make up Smooth Approach. A lush remake of Switch's "I Wanna Be Closer," displays the group's smooth, silk, satiny sound.
