This set (recorded live over a three-day period at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco in 1978) finds the great tenor Sonny Rollins welcoming trumpeter Donald Byrd to half of the selections; Byrd was beginning his comeback but sounds rusty and is only in so-so form. The four-piece rhythm section includes drummer Tony Williams and these versions of &Don't Stop the Carnival& and &Autumn Nocturne& are memorable but most of the rest of the set, although spirited, is a bit lightweight; when was the last time anyone performed &Camel,& &President Hayes& or &Sais&?
