In the 25th anniversary year of her death, EMI Classics pays tribute to British cellist Jacqueline du Pré with the release this luxury box set. Du Pré brought such searing intensity and radiant joy to her cello playing that, despite a career that was tragically curtailed by multiple sclerosis, continues to impact musicians today.
The Complete EMI Recordings is a 17-CD treasury uniting du Pré’s entire EMI Classics legacy and includes – for the first time on CD – two Bach sonata movements from her 1962 debut recital recording. Mastered by Abbey Road, the collection also features a 32-page booklet detailing the life and art of du Pré. Included in the collection is her legenedary 1965 recording of the Elgar Cello Concerto in E Minor conducted by Sir John Barbirolli – to which many have described as the definitive” interpretation.
