Yellowcard is the eponymous upcoming tenth and final studio album by American rock band Yellowcard. It will be released on September 30, 2016 through Hopeless Records. The album art photo was taken by guitarist Ryan Mendez.
Yellowcard have announced they'll split after nearly 20 years as a band.
The Florida punk outfit issued their debut album Midget Tossing in 1997 and will release their self-titled 10th album on September 30. But following the studio release and a world tour, Ryan Key, Sean Mackin, Ryan Mendez and Josh Portman will go their separate ways.
The band say: "We have decided that it is time for Yellowcard to come to an end. We can only hope that the memories we have made together with you will stay in your hearts as well. You have stood by us through all of the highs and lows on this unbelievable journey."
“We realized that this was the right time to step away and preserve the legacy and integrity of the band,” the band members wrote. “It is with you, the fans in mind, that this decision was made, We wanted to have the chance to share our farewell with as many fans around the world as we could, and now is the right time to do just that.”
“We went into this record knowing it would be the last,” the band writes. “The motivation behind this was to make sure these songs came from a place that was deeply rooted in us. We wanted to push ourselves to create a lasting finale for this incredible story on our own. It is also why we chose to self-title the album… We’ve made one of the strongest records of our career and a fitting final creative piece.”
Yellowcard formed in 1997 as a hardcore punk band, but a change in band members quickly ushered in a new sound that was more pop-influenced. They attained mainstream success after the release of their fourth studio album Ocean Avenue in 2003, thanks in large part to the album’s single of the same name. The band went on to put out another five albums between 2006 and 2014.
The band have announced shows in the US, UK and Europe – with Australian and Japanese dates to be revealed in due course.
On February 24, 2016, Yellowcard announced that they had re-signed with Hopeless Records and had begun work on their next record. Much of the process was done by the band themselves in Ryan Key's crowdfunded The Lone Tree Recordings studio.
