This LP, the fourth of four for Columbia, was the last one by the Preservation Hall Jazz Band's founder Allan Jaffe, who played tuba and passed away when he was 52. Most of the rest of the band (trumpeter Percy Humphrey, clarinetist Willie Humphrey, trombonist Frank Demond, pianist Sing Miller, banjoist Narvin Kimball and drummer Frank Parker) was actually quite a bit older, particularly the Humphreys. The New Orleans revival music they perform includes &Oh Didn't He Ramble,& &Gettysburg March,& &St. James Infirmary& and &Bourbon Street Parade,& and it's enjoyable enough, but the playing is quite erratic, particularly from the horns. This was a band better seen live than listened to closely on records.
