"In her 1979 recording, the slow basic tempi of Anne-Sophie Mutter's beautiful reading on DG were her own choice, she claims, and certainly not forced upon her by Karajan. The first two movements have rarely if ever been more expansively presented on record, but the purity of the solo playing and the concentration of the whole performance make the result intensely convincing. The finale is relaxed too, but is well pointed, at a fair tempo, and presents the necessary contrast. Good atmospheric recording against the warm acoustic of the Phiharmonie in Berlin."
