During the fourth season of Australia's version of the Idol franchise, the show was put under the spotlight after criticism that the alumni from the show, though all talented in their own right, were not particularly successful in terms of fame after the show was over. Thus, in the fourth season of the show, an album was released containing all the tracks performed by both the winner and the runner-up of the show in hopes of sparking some interest for the winner in a broader public's eye. This tactic was successful in the sense that it was cheap, quick, and offered the public a sampling of what was to come from fresh talent. Therefore, the first major-label release by fifth season winner Natalie Gauci works in quite the same format. Released a mere few months after her crowning, the reigning Idol queen released a 15-track album of many of the covers she performed during her run on the show, the difference being that this time around, the tracks are all full-length, studio-recorded versions of the songs. Therefore, merely months after winning the title of Australian Idol, Gauci has released a full-length major-label debut album. What makes the album work is that the tunes included are a mixed bag of pop hits, jazz tunes, and rock ballads that Gauci effortlessly sings through. However, she manages to put her own stamp on many great tracks by incorporating her skills as a piano genius, putting dark spins on crowd favorites (such as "Apologize" and "Umbrella"). All these covers, plus the addition of the single recorded post-finale, "Here I Am," create a strong base for Gauci's next effort. While the album doesn't always stand out as a vocal masterpiece, Gauci's soft supple tones help carry a motley set of songs and polish them all with her trademark finesse.
